By Broward County, Florida Poet-in-Residence Anastasia Clark
Fort Lauderdale area Poet Anastasia Clark recently completed the last of five free workshops at libraries throughout Broward County, Florida to encourage poets to create poetry in honor of famed pilot Amelia Earhart. The poems will be presented in an heirloom quality leather album crafted by LeatherScrapBook.Com, Inc., to the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum located in Atchison, KS, who will showcase the collection during 2012 April National Poetry Month. Purdue University Libraries System will also accept a copy of the collection and make it available to the public. Original vignette artwork and promotional assistance will be contributed by artist and author, Shae Leighland-Pence, based in Falls Church, VA. Several Broward County libraries will also simultaneously display the poems during 2012 National Poetry Month. Other funding for this event is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council. This project is also supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and by the Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum.
