It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our long time member and beloved friend John Casey.  He was on our Board of Directors, and was our Director of Restorations & Exhibits, as well as a military historian at our Museum. John was U.S. Army (Ret).  He always had a special bond with those who served our country, and was for years the glue that kept our Museum together. He will be missed by all who loved him. John passed away on March 11, 2015.

In lieu of flowers, donations or memberships to the NASFL Museum are appreciated.

Photos of John's Memorial and life celebration took place on Saturday May 16, at the Museum.

Rest in Peace. You always had such a great disposition, and your vast knowledge of military history was always inspirational. We will miss you John!

So proud of my brother, Johnny, for spending his time volunteering at a place he loved. He would tell us about his times there and would send special items to my sons ... sharing his knowledge and passion. Missing you.

John, my husband, my friend, my companion, 33 years is a long time to have loved you and I will cherish every smile, every tear, every memory, and every day we had together. Though my heart is broken and I will miss you and think of you every day for the rest of my life, I will learn to let you go so that you are free to follow the journey that God has planned for you. I will love you always, Vickie

I will miss my longtime friend ( I was 5 when the Casey's moved next door). Through the years, I always knew John had my back, whether playing hockey for the Acadama Suns or as my roommate on SW3rd Ave. in Ft.L. It certainly never was dull being with Case.

Thank you Mark, I know you were a friend of John's "BV" and it was nice to have finally met you as he spoke of you often. When your Dad came to visit, hockey was all the talk! I knew your Mom and John & I were saddened to learn of her passing. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family for your loss. Please keep in touch, I always enjoy the Christmas cards Dara sends, they are always unique!

I met John at the museum in January 2010. I followed his lead and helped him fix things up at the museum. He was so good to me; he'd let me get a bit carried away, then would show me the right way to do things. We had so much fun planning the next task. Just about every time I'd arrive, he would already have everything out, tools ready to go. He did it for love and respect for our veterans and wanted to have a special place for them to visit. Things will never be the same there without him, and he will always be remember so fondly.

John was one heck of a guy. A hockey team mate back in Philly (and one tough defenseman) who would never let anybody run the goalie (me). A truly funny guy with a great sense of humor and a knack for being a master prankster. And a part of the rock & roll generation who embraced life to the fullest & loved every minute of it. Although we sometimes go for years without seeing old friends, they are never far from our thoughts and always close in our memories and friends like that live forever in our hearts. God Bless you Casey--thanks for everything. Peace to you & peace to all your loved ones.

Dearest Vickie,

What a sad time for you, but i know you understand that John is in a place that has no barriers or boundries. You two loved each other before the paper commitment and continued to love each other in your journey together. You both taught each other respect and patience. He will forever be the bright spot in your heart and you will be able to remember the life you had together and not this sorrow that completely is engulfing you.

John was my cousin, so we go back over 60 years. There are many great memories from our childhood, but most of all I remember John playing hockey before hockey was popular. He was a fierce competitor....someone you wanted on your team, whether it was hockey, or on your team in life. Over the last couple of years we talked many times, about a lot of things, but mostly he wanted to know how I was feeling. We always laughed a lot. I will miss those phone calls, but always remember how he cared about people. Until we meet again, say Hi to all the Browns, Burnetts, and Caseys. Love..Cousin Chip.

My condolences. One of my favorite coworkers, John was a pleasure to be around. Always talking with him in regards to firearms, military, etc. Was always there to lend a hand or give you a small memento of his friendship. One person who made this world a better place. I will miss him but never forget. God speed.

I have worked with John for over 26 years, and enjoyed all the good times we had working together and especially the times we were together off work. (Not enough of those)John had a great sense of humor, and I truly enjoyed listening to him tell stories.
We all miss him here at work, but especially the guys in our department.

If you could only have one brother you were lucky if that guy was my brother Johnny. As a youngster he tormented his four sisters as any self respecting guy would, it was the only way we would leave him alone. As he grew up he became a kinder, gentler man and showed us much love. He taught me how to ride a bike (avoid the sticker bushes), how to change a fan belt (emergency hands when he was going on a date), and who not to play Jeopardy, Trivia or any other game with that asked questions as he knew all the answers. Love you and miss you, Carol

John how you are missed. Funny how even though we only met 7 years ago, I have known you forever!!!! Your darling Vickie and I met 27 years ago at Seiko. We had those big meetings yearly and she and I always got together on our "down time". We would dance sing have a few cocktails and all I heard from her was about this Awesome, Handsome Guy named John. Remember the first time we all got together???? Timmy and I were in Clearwater visiting his folks and I called Vickie and we had this Hair Brain idea to meet for lunch...the 4 of us. Well, lets see, I think it took you guys 7 hours and took us like 6 and we met in Ft. Myers. It was the first time I had seen Vic in probably 14 years and our first time meeting her John!!!! Lunch was fabulous, we drove around to Sanabel took some pictures. You were great. So patient with us as we yacked our heads off. We were looking forward to getting you and Vic up here so we could go to Gettysburg together. Timmy loves history and the war times just like you. Y'all got along great. Those were just the beginning times of a great friendship. Can't watch The 3 Stooges without thinking of us laughing late nights the Christmas we stopped by. My life was enriched having you as a friend and better because you loved my friend, Vickie so very, very much.
I am still looking forward to you taking me up in the plane like the photo Vickie sent of the two of you!!!! I know it will happen, the location will be spectacular. Heaven must be beautiful this time of year.

I first met John 44 years ago. I later met my husband Barry through John and his group of friends. Vickie met John through me during our Seiko years together. I guess it was all meant to be! John helped Barry get through his long illness, despite the miles apart, with many supportive phone calls and much laughter about their old escapades together! Although he wasn't feeling so well himself, he was always there for Barry. John was a wonderful and true friend to us. I like to think he and Barry are together now, still laughing and reminiscing.

Anyone these days that can share a life with someone for 33+ year, tells me that John was someone truly special and very much loved by you. And he loved you...there was no doubt. You are in my thoughts and prayer this entire week and always. Love, Wendy

Dear Vickie, I am so sorry to hear about John. He was a great guy who I admired. It was always great to talk with him when you guys had parties. He was the only person I knew who was a Flyers fan. As a veteran we shared a great love for the USA. I have you in my thoughts and prayers.

I attended the memorial service Saturday for John. Probably 100 people at the museum. His younger sisters spoke beautifully about John and Father Perkins was perfect. . Minerva, Angela and I were the last to leave as the sun went down. As we quietly left the museum, we were so happy to have shared such a wonderful celebration of life, with the bagpiper and Irish Band playing. I still have a lump in my throat and always will when I remember John and

My heartfelt thanks to all who made this day possible, to those who were able to attend, and to those who were not as I know you were there in spirit. It is comforting to know that so many wonderful people were a part of John's life and that they have offered their continuing support to help me through this challenging time. It was so appropriate to have the memorial at the Museum, I know John would have loved it. A sad note I must add, John's father, James Casey, passed away on 5-18-2015. A funeral service for his father and a memorial service for John was held on 5-21 in their hometown of Glenside, PA. My heartfelt thanks to family and friends there also. Please keep John's family in your thoughts and prayers.
Though both will be greatly missed we must remember, their spirits soar and they are now free!
