Amelia Earhart Showcase

Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum hosted a reception to showcase "Our Poetic Tribute to Amelia Earhart"
in honor of April 2012 National Poetry Month! Produced by Broward County, Florida Poet-in-Residence Anastasia Clark, who worked for a year bringing awareness, readings and workshops around South Florida. Many of the poets that participated got to see the poetry collection before it leaves on its way to the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, in Atchison, Kansas. The heirloom quality album features three original artworks by Shae Leighland-Pence and the works of 42 emerging and established poets with 49 poems from South Florida, California, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia and Utah. The cover was hand-crafted by LeatherScrapBook.Com, Inc. Copies of this special collection will be available for display at the following locations in time for April 2012 National Poetry Month.

The Naval Museum provided a spectacular reception for us! They gave us a warm welcome and lovely food. Everything was all set up when we arrived-including a nice podium, seating, a reception table for the album. I am so grateful for their support!

Amelia Earhart is an American symbol, an example and motivation for women in aviation and around the world. But before she was “Lady Lindy,” as her fans lovingly called her, she was actually Amelia Mary Earhart. Earhart had been turning traditional gender roles from a very young age. Certainly, all that modified when Earhart took her initial airplane ride in December 1920. Once she was flying ahead of the cloud line, she was captivated. She never desired to put her feet back on the ground. It was then that Earhart was aware that her heart fitted to the sky. The following year, Earhart began taking piloting educations. Earhart became one of America’s amazing mysteries. The last time Earhart and Noonan were perceived from was during their exit from Lae en route to Howland Island. Despite, they would never make it to their following destination, and it was the last time they were ever noticed.
