You're Invited.... Together, We Remember "A Day that will Live in Infamy"
Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance 72nd Anniversary
Guests of Honor Pearl Harbor Survivors Edward Hammond and Abe Stein.

Sunday, December 8, 2013, 2 p.m. Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale
7000 N. Ocean Dr., Dania, FL (John U. Lloyd State Park) Reception to follow.

Seventy-two years after the Japanese stunned the world with a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and pushed the country into World War II, the last remaining survivors of the attack still living in South Florida will be honored.    Local dignitaries and veterans groups, along with the U.S. Coast Guard and Spruance Division, U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, will participate in the ceremony, sponsored by Broward Navy Days, the non-profit organization that supports and honors our seagoing services in South Florida and sponsors Fleet Week Port Everglades each year. A memorial wreath will be put out to sea and a reception will follow the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.   "There are few survivors still with us 72 years later," said Mary Anne Gray, president and executive director of Broward Navy Days, "but we will remember and pay tribute to all the heroic men and women who were in Pearl Harbor on that day."

A message from Broward Navy Days President & Executive Director Mary Anne Gray:
"Broward Navy Days needs you to become a member - now more than ever. Due to budget constraints the U.S. Navy cannot support Fleet Week Port Everglades with ships this year. Instead, we will focus our events on recognizing the important contributions of veterans and more than 1,200 military and Defense Department personnel based right here in South Florida.

Keep in mind that Broward Navy Days maintains a year-round presence in our community and is not going away. There will be welcoming events and shore leave activities for visiting Navy and Coast Guard ships throughout the year. We will support the activities of the U.S. Southern Command and Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale. Broward Navy Days will participate in the commissioning ceremonies of new Navy ships and Coast Guard cutters in South Florida and the change of command ceremonies for the local Navy and Coast Guard commands. This year, and every year, we place special emphasis on honoring our many veterans for their service to this country. This includes our Salute To Veterans luncheon, Pearl Harbor memorial service, and the Legion of Honor Ceremony to honor World War II veterans with France's highest decoration, dating back to 1802.

Please don't forget about us. Broward Navy Days is a private, nonprofit organization. We do not receive governmental funding or financial support from a national affiliation. Our funding comes from sponsorships, special events, and tax-deductible contributions from people like you. That's why I urge you to become a member at this critical time. Memberships add up to support the biggest and best local military appreciation effort in our area.

Giving is easy. You can download a membership form and pay by check or go to Broward Navy Days Website and pay by credit card or Pay Pal. Thank you for your support of our important mission,
Mary Anne Gray President & Executive Director."

The 23rd annual celebration will commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 during April 25-30, 2012. Fleet Week will feature Navy ships dock-side in Port Everglades. Nearly 2,500 men and women of the US Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Navy and Deutsche Marine (Germany) will participate. Fleet Week provides an opportunity for citizens of South Florida to meet Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen as well as witness first-hand the latest capabilities of today’s modern navy and maritime services.  Please consider general and specific financial support for the following events planned to hub throughout South Florida.

BROWARD NAVY DAYS, INC. (BND) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit with a mission of supporting the morale, welfare, & recreation of our nation’s Navy, Coast Guard and Marines services. Fleet Week Port Everglades 2012 – presented by title sponsor Humana Military Healthcare Services – is South Florida’s occasion to honor and celebrate our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen for their services to our country. Demonstrate your support for our active duty military and their families by supporting BND Fleet Week Port Everglades and the mission of honoring and celebrating these patriots. Join us in thanking men and women of the military through public events that entertain and recognize these heroes. Fleet Week’s magic is in the power of the partnership between our communities and the men and women who serve our nation in the naval services. These great young Americans felt a call to serve their country and are routinely sent to represent our nation, and to defend our strategic interests at great personal risk. Hours are long, pay is low, and physical hardships and family separations are part of the job. South Floridians feel a unique bond to these Sailors, Marines and Coastguardsmen, and hundreds turn out to demonstrate that support each year and to enjoy the fun and excitement of world-class special events.
